Prince Charles Visits Barnsley Chronicle

Prince Charles met staff and toured the operations of the Barnsley Chronicle in celebration of the role that the paper has played in the town over its 153 year history.

The Prince of Wales started the press to print a special Royal Supplement commemorating his visit to the newspaper, with a photograph of His Royal Highness arriving at the newspaper an hour earlier on the front cover.

The chairman of the Barnsley Chronicle, Sir Nicholas Hewitt, led him on the tour where he met many of the 200 employees of the group and visited the operations of other group companies, Script Media and Pen & Sword.

Sir Nicholas said: “It was an historic day for The Barnsley Chronicle and for Barnsley as a whole.

“It was an honour to introduce him to the Chronicle and its staff who have helped make it the success it remains today.

“I believe that Prince Charles’ visit demonstrates his support for quality, honest local newspapers that remain at the heart of the communities that they serve”.

As well as the supplement, which was handed out to crowds as they waited for Prince Charles, the paper covered the visit extensively online with videos and picture galleries of the visit.
