Buxton Advertiser Leads Campaign to Save Birthing Centre
The Buxton Advertiser is leading a campaign to save the town’s birthing centre after plans were announced in May by NHS Derbyshire County to close it.
The campaign has garnered considerable support, with the MP for High Peak, Andrew Bingham, and local councillors joining in, as well as over 800 people joining the dedicated Facebook page.
Louise Bellicoso, who is running the campaign at the Advertiser, said that the public have been incredibly supportive, and have inundated her with emails after she requested peoples’ stories about their experiences with the centre.
Since May, the paper has run a page every week on the campaign and has also printed posters and run an action day in the town gather signatures. Local businesses have also created campaign stickers free of charge.
The decision over the centre will be made by NHS Derbyshire County in December.
