Local Press Photography Highlighted in Diamond Jubilee Exhibition
Photographs published in local newspapers are featured in a Royal Collection exhibition to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee.
Entitled ‘The Queen: 60 Photographs for 60 Years’, the exhibition at Windsor Castle features photographs contributed by regional and national press as well as photographic agencies.
Open until 28 October this year, the exhibition; “presents a portrait of The Queen’s reign as captured in fleeting moments on both official occasions and at relaxed family gatherings.”
Images from the Oldham Chronicle, Derby Telegraph, Belfast Telegraph, Hull Daily Mail, Wallingford Herald, Press and Journal, and Hexham Courant were selected by the Royal Collection to be displayed.
The regional press photographs span all six decades of The Queen’s reign with the oldest being the Chronicle’s image of Her Majesty preparing to inspect the Guard of Honour outside Oldham Town Hall, taken on 23 October 1954.
The Press and Journal’s picture of The Queen attending the Braemar Gathering with the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall taken on 2 September 2006 is the most recent picture.
