Details of Olympic Torch Relay Published

LOCOG has published the route for the Olympic torch relay which will pass through more than 1,000 cities, towns and villages in the UK before the Games next year.

Every county in England and every local authority area in Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales will host the Olympic flame during the 70-day relay, LOCOG said.

The relay will start at Land’s End on 19 May and will visit landmarks including Loch Ness, Snowdon, Stormont and Stonehenge during its 8,000 mile journey which ends at the Olympic Stadium on 27 July.

Details of the rote can be seen on the LOCOG website. The street-by-street detail of the route will be confirmed next year, with torchbearer places confirmed from February.

Media accreditation to cover the relay is handled by the LOCOG press office and editors interested in getting accreditation to cover the torch’s visit to their patch should contact Annabel Gunnell in the press office.
