East London Advertiser Reporter Scoops Journalism Award

The East London Advertiser’s Mike Brooke beat off competition from national press to become the first local newspaper journalist to scoop community charity London Citizen UKs’ Journalist of the Year award.

Previous winners have been BBC Newsnight’s Paul Mason, BBC’s Paul Donavan, The Guardian’s Polly Toynbee, The Independent’s Amol Rajan, the Polish daily Dziennik Polski’s Ela Sobolewska and last year The Guardian’s Allegra Stratton.

This year, Mike was up against Heather Stewart from The Guardian and The Observer and Chinese journalist Shiao Hung. He scooped the award for his coverage of  a number of campaigns run by Citizen UK’s East London section.

The NS is the voice of Britain’s local media, the UK’s most popular print medium. It represents 1,100 newspapers, 1,600 websites and other print, digital and broadcast channels.
