Market Rasen Mail Launches Buy Local Campaign
The Market Rasen Mail has launched a Buy Local campaign urging readers to spend their cash close to home and support local businesses.
The campaign has received the backing of West Lindsey District Council leader Burt Keimach, other councillors, and local traders since launching at the end of September.
One of Buy Local’s aims is for tax breaks to be awarded to independent local traders to help regenerate Market Rasen’s economy which has suffered in the economic downturn.
The launch story highlighted the number of empty shops in the town and the rising unemployment numbers and called on readers to support local businesses,
Each week, the paper features an independent trader who tells the story of their business, and what could be done to help in future.
A business forum event is planned for December as part of the campaign, and a feature showing readers how all of their Christmas shopping can be done in the town is also planned.
Paul Fisher, Market Rasen Mail editor, said: “We have had a lot of people approaching us to say they want to get involved in the campaign which is about highlighting the positive things going on in the town and making our readers aware that they must support local businesses in order for them to survive.
“Local papers have a vital role to play in stimulating economic growth at a local level and this campaign aims to do just that.”
