Olympics Regional Pool Meeting

The NS will meet sports editors from a number of regional press titles on Monday (28 November) to discuss practical arrangements for the regional press pool to cover the London 2012 Olympics.

Representatives from the Press Association and the British Olympic Association will join the meeting.

Meanwhile, the NS continues to press for more full accreditation and venue-specific passes for local papers to cover the Games. In a memorandum to the Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee, the NS highlights the unique relationship between local newspapers and the athletes from their community who may be taking part in 2012 and says that more passes should be made available to regional and local press to ensure that the games is not a “London-centric” event.

It also points out that, for events outside of Olympic Park, regional press should be granted venue-specific passes to be able to cover events in their own locality.

Reminder: the final deadline for applications for accreditation for press reporters and photographers to cover theLondon 2012 Paralympic Games is on Monday 28 November. Applications can be made through the BPA website. The accreditation process for the Paralympic Games is separate to that for the London 2012 Olympics.

The NS is the voice of Britain’s local media, the UK’s most popular print medium. It represents 1,100 newspapers, 1,600 websites and other print, digital and broadcast channels.
