Government Guidance on Publishing Criminal Court Cases

The government has issued guidance to the police and courts on their direct publication of more information about the outcome of local criminal cases.

The guidance does not deal with supply of information to the local media, but does stress the importance and encouragement of local newspaper coverage and continuation of existing arrangements for release of information negotiated by the NS, such as protocols on supply of court registers for publication, ACPO guidelines and joint NS/Judicial Studies Board/SoE/ Times court reporting guides.

The NS is the voice of Britain’s local media, the UK’s most popular print medium. It represents 1,100 newspapers, 1,600 websites and other print, digital and broadcast channels.
