Government Sources

The Central Office of Information (COI)
COI’s News Distribution Service (NDS), in partnership with the
Press Association, distributes more than 12,000 government and
public sector news releases each year. Its website now has a
journalists’ registration facility.
The wider COI News and PR division also acts as the regional
press office for numerous government departments and agencies. They
are a useful first port of call for information or guidance on
regional issues and implications.
Civil Contingencies / Resilience
The Government's response to civil contingencies and the
threat from terrorism is lead by the Cabinet Office which is
steering the Civil Contingencies Bill through Parliament.
Office for National Statistics
(ONS)
The Office for National Statistics (ONS) is a UK Government Agency
formed in April 1996 by the merger of the Central Statistical
Office (CSO) and the Office of Population Censuses and Surveys
(OPCS). It was created to meet the need for greater coherence,
improved presentation and easier public access to government
statistics.
Regional Trends
A compilation of statistics produced by HMSO (Her Majesty's
Stationery Office), is vital for anyone interested in regional
marketing. It brings together detailed information which highlights
regional variations in the UK and is intended for more specialist
users such as regional planners or marketing managers.
