Health & Safety: Information & Support
The Newspaper Society provides information and support on Health & Safety wide issues to its members through a number of means.
Members are able to receive telephone advice on specific issues and updates on legislation and relevant issues are also provided.
The Newspaper Society is a member of the CBI Health & Safety Panel which meets quarterly. It also takes an active role as a member of the Printing Industry Advisory Committee (PIAC), which is part of the Health & Safety Commission and which also meets regularly.
Through its membership with PIAC the Newspaper Society supports the strategy for workplace health and safety in printing and publishing and to reduce injuries and ill health caused within the industry. It is involved in campaign activities to raise awareness of key issues and the latest legislation including:
- Manual Handling
- Slips and Trips
- Machinery Accidents
- Dermatitis
- Noise and Vibration
- Upper Limb Disorders
- Safety of Newspaper Deliverers
- Falling From Heights
Information packs are made availablecovering many of the topics. Courses are also available including Risk Assessing and Policies and Health & Safety of newspaper delivery.
