Recent local media receptions, lunches and meetings have included: David Cameron, Phillip Hammond, Eric Pickles, Ed Vaizey, Gordon Brown, Peter Mandelson, Stephen Timms, Jeremy Hunt, Jack Straw, Ben Bradshaw, Rosie Winterton, John Whittingdale and Caroline Spelman. The NS also hosted a Society of Editors lunch with Ken Clarke.
The Newspaper Conference has also hosted meetings between the regional press lobby correspondents and politicians.

In 2010, receptions for the regional press were hosted by Prime Minister Gordon Brown and Prime Minister David Cameron.
The Society represents the regional press on specialist groups such as the Media Emergency Forum (Cabinet Office.
The Society also lobbies on European Union policy and legislation and Council of Europe issues. It plays an active role in the European Newspaper Publishers Association (ENPA) and its programme of meetings with the European Commission Presidency, EU commissioners, EU officials and the European Parliament.
Lobbying is also coordianted with the national newspaper, book and magazine publishing organisations such as the CBI, the Publishers Content Forum, Advertising Association and CICI.
