Newspaper Society Membership
Applications for membership of the Newspaper Society must be approved by the Newspaper Society Council and membership of JICREG must be approved by the JICREG board. Independent commercial newspaper publishers in the UK are eligible to apply to join the Newspaper Society.
Only UK regional and local newspapers owned and published by regional press publishers in membership of the Newspaper Society are eligible for a full entry on the NS industry database and for membership of JICREG.
There are separate subscriptions to join the Newspaper Society, AdFast, JICREG and for optional legal advice services. The NS subscription is based on share of advertisement revenue. If you would like quotes for membership, please advise us of the total advertisement revenue received by your company in the last calendar year.
Society members receive guidance and briefings on all practical newspaper industry issues (from employment affairs to environmental issues, from legal to editorial matters, from newsprint to new media topics).
They obtain professional advice and support from the Society’s team and participate fully in the Society’s representational, lobbying and industry work.
They serve, or are represented, on the Society’s Council, committees and forums, and direct the Society’s work and set the industry’s agenda. The interests of smaller independent publishers are represented by an Independent Publishers’ Forum. The Forum meets regularly, with guest speakers, to discuss relevant issues. It has eight elected members on Council, the Society’s lead body.
The Society continues to develop in response to the industry ensuring that its members are provided with the best possible service. Do let us know if you would like to arrange a visit to the Society to see some of our services in more detail.
