Press Cards: How to Apply

If you would like to apply for a press card please download an application form. This should be filled in and sent with a passport sized photograph and payment to:

Stacy Haertel, NS, 8th Floor, St Andrew's House, 18-20 St Andrew Street, London, EC4A 3AY.

All cards will be sent to the editorial/management representative elected to deal with press cards for the company. They will be sent back to the individual's personal address only in the case of freelances, if requested.

When applying for a press card

Please note that each applicant should only possess one press ID card.  When applying for an Newspaper Society press card they should not already hold a press card issued by another organisation.

Please ensure that the form is filled out clearly and in full, and is signed by the applicant and an editor or senior manager

The information that is entered in the 'name of organisation' field on the new application form is what will appear on the card so ensure that this is correct

A good quality passport-sized photograph taken against a light background is required. This can either be attached to the application form or emailed as a jpeg or gif to stacy_haertel@newspapersoc.org.uk. If e-mailing, indicate who the picture is for. Please do not send photos on disks.

Please attach the correct payment (£9.60 for members and £20.40 for non-members) or proof of payment with the application form (we accept cheques, BACS payments and Purchase Orders)

Freelancers must attach a letter, on headed paper, from the editor of a local or regional newspaper confirming that they regularly work for the newspaper

If any of these requirements are not adhered to we may be unable to process the application, or there may be a delay in supplying the card.

Renewing a Press Card

The card is valid for two years.

A letter and renewal form will be sent to your editor or specified contact within your company the month before the card is due to expire.

Return to the NS with any amendments and correct payment.

Lost or Stolen Cards

Companies should advise the Society in writing as soon as possible of cards which have been lost or stolen. Letters must be accompanied by a cheque made payable to The Newspaper Society to cover the cost of a replacement card, (members £9.60; non-members £20.40).
